Pokemon OUTSELLS Call of Duty
Pokemon Sun and Moon has outsold Call of Duty; Infinite Warfare, according to figures from November. US chart tracker NPD have revealed that the combined sales of Pokemon Sun and Moon, considered to be variants of the same game, have seen off all opposition, including the latest instalment in the Call of Duty series, which had already received backlash from some fans.
This event marks something of a turnaround for Nintendo, after the year began with the Wii U being confirmed as the company’s least successful console to date. Sun and Moon, published for the Nintendo 3DS, introduce 81 new species of Pokemon, and mark the beginning of the seventh generation of Pokemon games. Their success has been attributed in part to the impact that Pokemon Go has had, sparking fresh interest in the franchise.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare was published by Activision for Xbox One, Playstation 4 and Microsoft Windows. Its failure to secure the top spot is consistent with predictions that sales for the franchise would decrease. This is following a mixed reception to the initial trailer, which currently stands as the second most disliked video on YouTube.
